The FDA has issued a massive nationwide recall for bottle cooking oil.
More than 2,000 cases of the spray have been recalled due to an issue with packaging.
FDA Issues Nationwide Warning
On Monday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a huge recall for 2,060 cases of a cooking oil spray made by a company called Primal Kitchen.
The avocado oil needs to be sent back to the company due to issues with the glass breaking.
Spray Sold Throughout the United States
Primal Kitchen sold the tampered avocado oil throughout the eastern United States, California, and online.
It’s unknown how long these bottles have been used by customers or restaurants.
No Injuries Reported Yet
Currently, no injuries or illnesses have been reported by any consumers of the product.
Those who have purchased the oil are advised to throw out the bottle as soon as possible. If glass cannot be recycled safely, it is recommended that consumers place the glass bottle in a larger container and seal it with tape so that no people or animals hurt themselves on broken glass.
Why Do Food Recalls Happen?
Recalls on consumer food and beverages can occur for a number of reasons. Often, companies discover that an ingredient in the food has been contaminated after the items are shipped.
Faulty packaging or labeling mistakes that can put the quality of the item at risk is another common reason for recalls.
Primal Kitchen Is an Established Brand
The company was established almost 20 years ago by Mark Sisson with a mission to bring healthy fats, oils, and dressings to the market.
Currently, the company has dozens of products ranging from oils, salad dressings, and condiments.
Voluntary Recall From the Company
The issues with the bottles were first noticed in the Primal Kitchen warehouse when they discovered leaking bottles and damaged boxes.
The company issues a voluntary recall and is working in accordance with FDA regulations to ensure that their customers know about the issue.
Primal Kitchen Issues a Statement
The company released a statement about the issue to help customers feel assured about the situation.
The press release read: “Primal Kitchen is committed to upholding the highest safety and quality standards.”
No Other Container Breakages at Their Facility
The Oxnard, California-based company admits that a few batches of their bottled avocado oil have tempered glass that may break and leak on their own.
However, the company notes that no other issues with products or packaging have been noted in their facilities and shipping fulfillment centers.
Which Batches Have Been Recalled?
If you happen to be a customer of Primal Kitchen, now is the time to check your pantry for these products.
The affected bottles are the 750ML Avocado Oil with the package UPC (found next to the barcode) 8-5523200719-4 and UPC 108552320071910000. The best before dates will read August 19 to August 21, 2025.
Customers Are Eligible for a Refund
After safely disposing of the glass bottle, costumes are urged to call the Primal Kitchen contact number, Monday through Friday, at (888) 774-6259.
Customers will be prompted through a number of questions before receiving the refund on the product.
Sincere Apologies From the Company
The company also issues a heart-felt apology to all of their loyal customers.
They note that they hope this issue to be a one time occurrence and they apologize to any customers negatively affected by the recall.
