For more than five decades, McDonald’s has been one of, if not the most prominent, fast food chains on the planet. Now, the company has decided to expand its wildly successful empire and open another chain, CosMc’s.
With only five locations, CosMc’s is still very new. However, customers have already weighed in on the offerings and quality of the menu, and you may be surprised to learn what they have to say.
McDonald’s Opens CosMc’s
The very first CosMc’s opened its doors in Bolingbrook, Illinois, in December 2023. At that time, McDonald’s announced that “a handful of additional outposts [were] planned [for] the coming months.”
Now, just eight months later, there are still only five restaurants. The original is in Bolingbrook, and the other four are spread throughout the state of Texas.
What Is CosMc’s?
According to McDonald’s, “CosMc’s [is] a new small-format, beverage-led concept…inspired by nostalgia and powered by a menu of bold, refreshing beverages and tasty treats.” But what does that really mean?
CosMc’s drink menu is extensive, and each option is quite elaborate. The food options, while more limited, are also quite exciting and certainly different than those offered at a McDonald’s.
The Drink Menu at CosMc’s
The drink menu at CosMc’s is anything but basic. In fact, McDonald’s calls it “out of this world,” and the description is quite accurate.
From a Churro Frappe to a Sour Cherry Energy Boost that’s filled with caffeine, Popping Pear Slush and Tumeric Spiced Iced Latte, customers can add extra energy, popping boba, Vitamin C shots, or various flavored syrups to even further specialize the already complex beverages.
The Food Menu at CosMc’s
The food menu does include a few McDonald’s classics like Egg McMuffins and hash browns, but it also offers several new items, including various sweet treats like McPops, brownies, and blueberry lemon cookie sundaes.
Additionally, customers can opt for a Creamy Avocado Tomatillo Sandwich, a Spicy Queso Sandwich, or even pretzel bites.
People Have Reported Waiting Hours to Try CosMc’s
After reading about these intriguing menu items, customers have flocked to the five CosMc’s restaurants in Illinois and Texas to find out if they were as good as they sounded.
However, when they arrived, they found that CosMc’s only offers drive-thru service, and the lines are so long, it literally takes hours to order and get their food. Of course, as more locations open, this problem will likely be solved, but for now, it’s definitely a disappointing aspect of an otherwise exciting new restaurant.
An Honest Review of CosMc’s
One woman from Bolingbrook, Illinois, braved the line at her local CosMc’s in order to provide an honest and detailed review of the new restaurant.
She ordered a wide variety of menu items, including the Sour Cherry Energy Burst, the Popping Pear Slush, a Churro Frappe, a Chai Frappe Burst, the McPops mini pastries, hash browns, and the Spicy Queso Sandwich.
Drink Reviews at CosMc’s
Anna reported that the Popping Pear Slush was “[her] least favorite thing that [she] had at a McDonald’s.” She was extremely excited about a drink with pear, whipped cream, and pop rocks, but the “sheer amount of sugar” made Anna feel sick almost immediately.
Then, she tried the Cherry Sour Energy Burst, which was both sour and full of popping boba that literally sent a “shock to [the] nervous system.” Anna said it was simply a little too intense. The Chai Frappe Burst was also too sweet, but Anna fell completely in love with the Churro Frappe, calling it “delectable.”
Food Reviews at CosMc’s
Anna explained that the hash browns were slightly different from the original McDonald’s hash browns, but in a good way. They were less greasy and came with fun dipping sauces that she very much enjoyed.
She also noted that the Spicy Queso Sandwich was a great choice for breakfast. It filled the “hunger void” with sausage and egg and had a very interesting flavor. Anna also loved the McPops, but only the hazelnut flavor.
Is CosMc’s Worth a Visit?
Although Anna made it exceptionally clear that this is just her opinion, she did leave readers with an important final message.
The CosMc’s customer said, “If you’re a McDonald’s fan or a fan of sugar in general, you’ll love it. If you’re neutral toward McDonald’s and sugar, you’ll either be neutral or love it. If you’re a sugar hater, this is not the place for you.”
Will McDonald’s Build More CosMc’s Around the Country?
According to McDonald’s, the next CosMc’s will open in Fort Worth, Texas, very shortly. After that, they will continue to open another four locations, though they didn’t specify where.
It seems that the giant company will stop there, at least temporarily, to determine whether there is enough customer interest and support to open more locations around the country.
McDonald’s Is Big Enough to Take Risks
Some may wonder why a company as successful as McDonald’s would spend its money on an arguably controversial venture, such as attempting to open a sugary beverage restaurant.
However, because McDonald’s makes around $14.6 billion in gross profits every year, the successful company can certainly spend a bit on new and exciting projects without worrying about its bottom line.
